Why the nicknames?

Since I just provided more people with my blog address, I figured I should post a short note about my nickname policy - why I call people Boyfriend or Roommate or Boss or Sister instead of using their real names.

I use nicknames because the people I talk about are not the authors of this blog. They have ended up on the internet because:

1) They are involved in my life.
2) I decided to post parts of my life on the internet.

It is not really their choice to be on the internet - if it were, they would have made a blog for themselves (and some do use various forms of bloggity fun). So out of respect for them, I try to keep them anonymous.

As for my own anonymity, I couldn't care less about who knows the details of my life. But, if I were to use my name, it would be far too easy to identify the real names of people like Boyfriend, Boss and Sister - because there are precious few people with my real name who are in similar life situations. Once I am identified, theoretically others could be too.
